PT-141 Offers New Way To Treat Sexual Dysfunction In Men And Women

PT-141 Bremelanotide in the form of injection is FDA-approved to treat HSDD in women, but the peptide’s affect was originally discovered in men. While researching a drug to darken skin, researchers noticed that men got spontaneous erections.

Studies on intranasal administration of PT-141 reported the spray has the same impact as the injection.

What Is PT-141?

How Do PDE5 Inhibitors Work?

Inhibiting, or blocking, the enzyme phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5), slows the breakdown of the molecule cGMP. With cGMP still active, the smooth muscles in the penis relax or stay relaxed longer. When the muscles relax, blood vessels open to increase blood flow. This is called vasodilation.

Studies show PDE5 inhibitors may have the same effect in premenopausal² and postmenopausal women. ²

They increase blood flow to the vagina and clitoris, which boosts libido, increases vaginal lubrication and improves sexual satisfaction. ^2,3
