Keep Keratosis Pilaris Away With Obagi KeraPhine Lotion

Your skin has little bumps or white dots that resemble a plucked chicken. Not funny, we know. But actually, “chicken skin” is a real term used to describe Keratosis Pilaris (KP).?

How to Treat KP

Obagi’s KeraPhine lotion is clinically proven to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and unclog pores that are covered with a build up of the skin protein keratin. With two powerful AHAs, Obagi’s KeraPhine can smooth out KP or any skin that is rough. It’s like giving your arms and legs a peel.

What Causes Chicken Skin?

KP is caused by a build-up of the protein keratin. Keratin protects the skin from bacteria and infections but if it’s not sloughed away during the normal skin cycle, it can create a hard plug that clogs hair follicles. Chicken skin tends to occur mostly on arms and legs.

Some people are more prone to build up. If you have eczema, also called atopic dermatitis, you are more prone to keratosis pilaris. Symptoms besides rough skin and visible bumpy spots include itchy skin and sometimes inflammation of the blocked hair follicles.

Are Ingrown Hairs Keratosis Pilaris?

KP can definitely cause ingrown hair. With no way out, hair has no choice but to grow in. This leaves your skin with inflamed red bumps.
