Naturally Increase Growth Hormone Levels With Ipamorelin
Ipamorelin is a peptide that stimulates the pituitary gland to release natural growth hormone (somatotropin). It belongs to the subclass of growth hormone secretagogues known as a selective ghrelin receptor agonists.
Some clinical trials have shown that the GH-releasing impact of ipamorelin may help the body burn fat, recover faster after exercise, improve sleep, support cognitive health and help build muscle mass. Doctors may prescribe ipamorelin as part of an overall active aging program.
What Does Growth Hormone Do?
Growth hormone is made naturally in the anterior of the pituitary gland. It assists in the development of muscle, tissue, the somatic nervous system and helps regulate metabolism.
Growth hormone secretions begins to wane after age 30. Additionally, studies show obesity,1 lack of exercise and a poor diet can inhibit growth hormone secretion.
Lower growth hormone levels are associated with aging (decreased muscle mass, cognitive decline), increased body fat and diminished sleep quality.2
Ipamorelin may help overcome those barriers and help forge a path to better health and active aging.
Is Ipamorelin The Same As Human Growth Hormone (hGH)?
No, ipamorelin is not the same as natural (endogenous) growth hormone. It also should not be confused with recombinant Human Growth Hormone (rhGH).
rhGH is a lab-synthesized replica of growth hormone. rhGH is FDA-approved to treat growth hormone deficiency in adults and children and wasting from certain diseases such as AIDS.
rhGH (also referred to as hGH) works by adding growth hormone to the body rather than stimulating its release. hGH, is illegal in the US for any other use than its FDA-approved indications.
Growth hormone secretagogues like ipamorelin may be legally prescribed for active aging and other potential benefits of increased growth hormone.
How Does Ipamorelin Work?
Ipamorelin binds to the ghrelin receptors (ligands) Ligands, also called receptors, are signaling cells. Their role is to receive messages (instructions) and then enable the trasmission of that message. The message initiates or continues a series of processes that control physiological functions.
The ghrelin ligand conveys instructions directing the pituitary gland to secrete more growth hormone.
What Are Peptides?
Peptides are short chains of amino acids as oposed to proteins which are long chains of amino acids. Proteins are multiple peptides held together by peptide bonds. The unique amino acid sequences in each peptide defines its function and the different arrangements of peptides in each protein defines its role.
Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide consisting of five (penta) amino acids.
What Is A Selective Agonist?
Ipamorelin is an example of a selective agonist because it only binds to the gherlin receptor. This makes ipamorelin more desirable than some other growth hormone secretagogues because it does not cause the secretion of other hormones such as cortisol or insulin.
What Is the Difference Between GH And IGF-1?
Growth hormone and IGF-1 are both growth hormones that work interdependently. The pituitary gland secretes GH, then growth hormone triggers the synthesis of IGF-1, mainly (about 80%) in the liver but also in bone (about 20%).
IGF-1 modulates the effects of growth hormone and plays a key role in chondrogenesis (bone development).
GH has anti-insulin-like effects while IGF-1 has insulin-like effects. When IGF-1 and HG levels are balanced they help maintain homeostasis of blood sugar levels.
